I understand that the term “Nazi” derived from National “Socialism,” and thus the political movement of fascism has more in common with communism than one might think… but it’s still strange to me that these two movements on the opposite ends of the “wing” spectrum would both act so similarly, exercising tight controls on industry. Of course, communists nationalized everything entirely, but I’m still not clear on what fascists wanted to be done with private industry.

I’d appreciate it if someone could explain (pretend you’re talking to a high schooler here, not a scholar) how fascist (not just Nazi) economic policies, with regard to state involvement in industry, differed from those of the communists of the time (e.g. Stalin), and why is this “third way” labelled a right-wing movement, when it involves state intervention?
