when i search for “atmospherics” he’s the only name that comes up a lot, along with the title of that article, but i can’t find the article anywhere.

whew, you’re right it’s not easy to find. This site says it’s something between $12.00 – $46.00 to get a copy ! That is a lot!! (The article says $12.00 but the estimate check out is $46.00… maybe that includes a registration fee or delivery?)
Maybe one of your libraries (check public and universities in your city) would have the Journal of Retailing, back as far as 1974, that you could go and read in person.
Babson College produces Journal of Retailing where this paper appeared. They have an archives of past issue page so check if the study is in there
